For the last four years, Darrel Menthe has helped build support within Culver City’s business community for progressive goals as President of the Culver City Downtown Business Association. As the COVID-19 pandemic transformed daily life across the country, Menthe was key in ushering support to transform sections of Main Street and Culver Boulevard in Downtown Culver City to be car-free. Reconfigurations in place help to support local businesses by providing space outdoor dining, space for pedestrians to practice distancing, while maintaining access for buses and people on bikes. Menthe’s creative, can-do efforts to work with city staff make space to show exactly how Culver City can thoughtfully work to meet complicated challenges.

Menthe has made active transportation a central component of his campaign. He calls for an “all of the above” transportation system that provides quality alternatives to driving, including efficient transit and making “every Culver City neighborhood walkable and bike-able.” In his response to Bike The Vote L.A., Menthe expresses clear support for Vision Zero and the need to build out a transportation network that supports travel by bike and by bus on major streets. His response also shows that he understands the action that is needed within Culver City bureaucracy to bring about change, including getting the City Manager on board to make Vision Zero policy in transportation decision-making.

At a time of immense corporate investment in Culver City, Darrel Menthe has shown great leadership within the business community centered on equity. If elected, Methe will bring an important voice from Culver City’s commercial sector that is grounded by empathy. Bike The Vote L.A. is proud to endorse Darrel Menthe for Culver City Council.
